Preservation Committee

Scope: The Preservation Committee was established to support preservation and conservation activities in Western New York collecting institutions (libraries, museums, galleries, archives, etc.); to provide training and continuing education opportunities; to be a regional resource for facilitating the exchange of knowledge about and encouraging adherence to preservation and conservation techniques, standards, and initiatives/changes across our field; and to encourage and advocate for representation from and collaboration with historically marginalized communities in institutions with historical collections.

Charge:

• Provide preservation training and learning opportunities to WNY historical collections staff and volunteers (WNYLRC SP 1-3,5)
• Create free and accessible educational materials about preservation and conservation techniques (WNYLRC SP 1-4)
• Facilitate projects to highlight WNY historical collections and the people who care for them (WNYLRC SP 1-5)
• Advocate for preservation initiatives throughout WNY institutions, especially those that preserve the history of historically marginalized communities (WNYLRC SP 1, 3-5)
