THe Board of Trustees at Seymour Library seek an enthusiastic, innovative, and community-minded Director with a strong commitment to outreach, and a passion for fostering independent learning and the joy of reading. Located in Monroe County near the scenic and historic Erie Canal, the Seymour Library serves 20,000 residents and has an annual operating budget of $600,000. From its quaint Victorian Main Street with bustling shops and restaurants, to the campus of SUNY College at Brockport, the village of Brockport is a dynamic and exciting place to live, work, andv play.The towns of Sweeden and Clarkson provide a balance of rural charm and suburban convenience.

The enthusiastic efforts of active volunteers, Friends of the Library, and the Seymour Library Foundation contribute to the library vibrancy. A supportive Board of Trustees works cooperatively to deliver programs and services that reflect the needs and values of the community.The beautiful 18,000+square foot facility oppened in 1996 boasts a spacious and seperate Childrens Room with an early literacy enrichment play space.Expansion and renovation of the "Teen Scene" features a large teen art display space, and comfortable seating for collaborativeand individual study.

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • Masters degree in Library Scvience from a college or university program accredited by the ALA or recognised by the NY State Education Department
  • NYS Public Librarian Certificate or eligible to obtain one
  • Two or more years of satisfactory professional library in an administrative capacity
  • Eligible candidates include those qualifying for the Library Director 1 Civil Service Exam or those currently serving in a permanent Library Director 1 Civil Service title seeking to transfer

Position is full time at 40 hours per week

Probational Period is for 9 months, with a review after 3 months and 6 months,. At successful completion of the probationary          period the appointment becomes permanent.

      Salary and Benefits

Minimum Salary of $65,000. Benefits include two weeks of accruable vacation days per year; single Medical/ Dental insurance;    

12 accruable PTO, seven paid holidays; three personal days, and NY State Returement.
