Lightner Library is a dynamic, innovative, and student-centered environment serving students, faculty, and staff at Keuka College.  The library supports the campus curriculum and provides information literacy instruction, specialized reference assistance, and collection development in all curricular areas.  The Reference & Instruction Librarian will be responsible for providing services in several areas including reference, information literacy instruction, technical services, collection management, and Interlibrary Loan.  This is a full-time, tenure-track position. Essential Responsibilities:

1. Reference and Instruction

  •          Provide reference services to students and faculty in a variety of formats that include face-to-face, email, telephone, chat, and Teams/Zoom;
  •          Collaborate with the Library Director and other librarians to provide in-person or web-based (remote) information literacy instruction for students that meet general and discipline-specific information literacy outcomes;
  •          Develop additional teaching materials that include web-based tutorials, instructional videos, and LibGuides.

2.  Interlibrary Loan

  •          Oversee the Library’s Interlibrary Loan Service that includes creating and maintaining process and procedure documentation related to Interlibrary Loan (ILLiad) and developing training materials for Library staff’;
  •          Process borrowing and lending requests, as needed.

2. Technical Services:

  •          Assist with cataloging and classification of library materials, as needed;
  •          Assist with maintaining quality control over bibliographic records in the library’s Integrated Library System (Polaris);
  •          Assist with maintaining accurate library holdings in WorldCat.

3. Collection Management:

  •          Identify and evaluate new resources for acquisition;
  •          Evaluate collection for purposes of retention, replacement, and weeding;
  •          Preserve library materials in all formats that have historical or cultural significance.

4. Other:

  •          Maintain statistics for reporting and learning assessment;
  •          Assist with maintenance of college archives;
  •          Contribute to the College and the Division through participation in College and Division committees, events, and functions;
  •          Engage in scholarship and service in accordance with college faculty expectations and professional development;
  •          Consistently demonstrate high standards of integrity by supporting the Keuka College mission, vision, and values, and adhering to institutional policies;
  •          Maintain high regard for student privacy in accordance with FERPA privacy policies and procedures and other institutional and/or regulatory requirements;
  •          Attend provided or necessary training and other meetings to support professional development;
  •          Regular and reliable attendance is expected and required;
  •          Perform other functions as required and as assigned.
  •          Responsible for ensuring that assigned tasks are completed in compliance with various institutional and regulatory           requirements.
  •          Maintain a professional and courteous attitude at all times towards co-workers, internal and external customers,             representing Keuka College, its programs, policies and procedures in a positive and professional manner. Maintain           effective working relationships to ensure institution-wide teamwork.
  •          Attend provided/necessary training and other meetings to support effectiveness within the position as required.
  •          Consistently demonstrate high standards of integrity by supporting the Keuka College mission, vision, and values             and adhering to institutional policies.
  •          Maintain a high regard for student privacy in accordance with the FERPA privacy policies and procedures.
  •          Regular and reliable attendance is expected and required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1.        MLS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited program;
  2.        2-3 years of library experience and 1-2 years of instructional experience;
  3.        Knowledge of trends in higher education libraries;
  4.        Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Apps, Springshare LibGuides (or similar), a library management system (Polaris or similar), and ILLiad (or similar).
  5.        Experience in providing research assistance at an academic library reference desk;
  6.        Knowledge of copyright issues in an academic library setting;
  7.        Possess a strong commitment to patron services with the ability to respond sensitively to the needs/concerns of students, faculty, staff, and the public.
  8.        Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
  9.        Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  10.    Ability to provide exemplary customer service to all internal and external stakeholders
  11.    Ability to work under pressure with a high tolerance for interruptions, and the ability to work with diverse groups of people


Physical Requirements:

  •          Occasional evening hours/weekends.
  •          Occasional lifting up to 25 lbs.
