The Library Assistant reports to the Library Director and is responsible for assisting with the administration and organization of the library.  Specific duties include assisting the Circulation Supervisor, Interlibrary Loan and Technical Services Assistant with oversight and training of student workers, and processing of Interlibrary Loan requests.  This position will also work with other library personnel to provide support in the areas of archives and cataloging and will complete other projects as assigned by the Library Director. Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Circulation Desk
    1. Assist with training, scheduling, and supervision of student workers.
    2. Assist with shelving and stack maintenance.
    3. Provide library services at the circulation desk that includes responding to patron questions and concerns.
    4. Use and administration of the library’s online circulation system (Polaris).
  2. Interlibrary Loan
    1. Assist with processing lending and borrowing requests.
    2. Assist with sending, receiving, and logging materials borrowed from and lent to other libraries.
    3. Assist with communication with other libraries.
  3. Technical Services
    1. Assist with processing new materials.
    2. Assist with copy cataloging for new materials.
    3. Assist with preparing journals for binding.
  4. Other
    1. Create topical library displays to highlight library resources as well as College and current events.
    2. Assist with maintenance of Keuka College Archives;
    3. Responsible for ensuring assigned tasks are completed in compliance with various institutional and regulatory requirements.

  • Maintain a professional and courteous attitude at all times towards co-workers, internal and external customers, representing Keuka College, its programs, policies, and procedures in a positive and professional manner. Maintain effective working relationships to ensure institution-wide teamwork.
  • Attend provided/necessary training and other meetings to support effectiveness within the position as required.
  • Consistently demonstrate high standards of integrity by supporting the Keuka College mission, vision, and values and adhering to institutional policies.
  • Maintain a high regard for student privacy in accordance with the FERPA privacy policies and procedures.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is expected and required.
  • Perform other functions as assigned by management.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1.        High school degree required; some college preferred
  2.        Two years library experience
  3.        Ability to supervise others
  4.        Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
  5.        Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  6.        Ability to provide exemplary customer service to all internal and external stakeholders
  7.        Ability to work under pressure with a high tolerance for interruptions, and the ability to work with diverse groups of people


Physical Requirements:

  •          Occasional evening hours.
  •          Occasional lifting up to 25 lbs.
